Partnerships Partnerships are very important to work the Business and Economic Revitalization Association (BERA) does. From its inception, the Southeast Community Leaders forum Series, hosted by BERA and University of Illinois Extension demonstrated the commitment to the region through it’s partnership of BERA, the University of Illinois Extension, Chicago State University. Through a series of Leadership Trainings over the past two years, comprised of leaders of organizations on the south side of Chicago, it was determined that a Regional Strategic Plan is necessary for seven predominantly African American communities’ growth if they are to remain an integral part of the growth of the Midwest. The strategic plan will help identify ways of attracting resources to this region consequently strengthening a much larger area and causing a much more powerful impact. Participating communities are Greater Grand Crossing, Chatham, Avalon, Burnside, Roseland, Calumet Heights, and South Shore. Volunteers Volunteers, through their in-kind services, are an integral part of program implementation. BERA’s goal is to improve the quality and satisfaction of the volunteer experience by offering a workshop series which will help volunteers meet their own words as well as fulfill organizational needs.
